In a must win game the girls got a victory that now sends them into a playoff with Mastergeeha.
The first half was end to end with Celtic playing into a strong wind. It was the prolific Leah Mannix who scored first on 15 mins after she got onto the end of a Jaylinn O’Leary pass.
However Castleisland got one back from a corner kick but Mannix pounced immediately from the resulting tip off when Seodhna O’Sullivan curled the ball to her feet and Leah stuck the ball low to the net. It was Castleisland who took over at this point scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Leaving the score 3-2 to Castleisland at half time.
As the second half began Celtic faced an uphill battle to save their title hopes and the girls duly responded with determination and hard work. Indeed the second half belonged to Celtic possession wise with Mia Cox, Clodagh O’Connor and Seodhna O’Sullivan to the fore, Castleisland defended well and Killarney struggled to get shots on target, until a short corner kick from the excellent Aimee Shine found the rampaging Mannix who stuck an excellent kick into the roof of the net.
Celtic now pushed for the winner and it was a well placed low drive from Olga Kumor that won the game.
Brid O Connor’s strength and pace gave Celtic a boost on her introduction in the second half.
👏Well done girls and management
