Celtic U12 Hoops welcomed Castlemaine to Celtic Park for the 1st Round of the John Murphy Shield/Trophy. In a free flowing game with chances aplenty. Both teams were playing nice football but it was the visitors who took the lead when they beat the offside trap and gave Donnacha Lynch no chance. Celtic equalised with a great team goal. Donnacha played his kick out short to James Courtney out the left. He found Conall Favier who linked up with Denis Keneally and Cian O'Connell before Connell played Cian in behind and his pace took him beyond the defence and he finished neatly. Castlemaine bounced back and again beat the high line and went 2-1 up. Celtic responded and had chances through Ryan Lowe and Conall Favier before James Courtney had a shot blocked. From the next attack, Cian O'Connell was played in by Ryan Lowe and he beat the keeper to make it 2-2. A defensive error let Castlemaine in again and it was 3-2 to the visitors at half time.
Celtic started fast in the 2nd half after a few strong words at the break and within a minute Denis Keneally’s pace and power took him beyond the visitors defence and he made it 3-3. Donnacha Lynch made a good Dave to keep the sides level and some strong defending by Conor Clifford, Joey O'Connor and Jack Galvib was keeping the visitors at bay. Celtic took the lead for the 1st time when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box and it was met on the half volley by Cian O'Connell and he found the top corner. It was all Celtic now and the midfield was getting control with good work by Evan Brosnan and Jack O'Halloran. We went 5-3 up when James Courtney played Cian in down the left and his cross was finished neatly by Denis Keneally. Celtic made sure of the win when Ryan Lowe broke through the middle and finished well to make it 6-3. Castlemaine did find a 4th before the end but Celtic advance to the next round with a fine 6-4 victory.

Good performances by all with James Courtney, Denis Kennealy and Ryan Lowe pushing Cian O'Connell for man of the match.

👏Thanks to Castlemaine for a very sporting game and thanks to Tom Kerrisk for reffing.

👏Well done boys and management
