On a beautiful spring afternoon in Woodlawn, local rivals Killarney Athletic and Killarney Celtic, two ball playing sides, competed in a fixture.
The opening period was a little bit frantic as both teams tried to get the ball under control. Athetic went closest in that period when a corner to the back post was shot across the Celtic goal but Celtic grew into the match and started to create some chances with the likes of Jack Culloty, Sean Collins, Kiernan Kelly and Samuel Scroope a threat up front. Just before half-time Celtic got the breakthrough they probably deserved when a lovely ball from Ignacy Truchan (on for the injured Kieran Kelly) set up Samuel for a cool finish.
The second half was a more open game and Celtic scored two goals in the 3rd quarter; Samuel following up from Luca's original shot and Nando Dominguez getting his first goal following great work from Dara Horan and Samuel wide on the left. Celtic went close on a couple more occasions, with Sean Collins particularly unlucky when his fine strike rattled across bar. Athletic were a constant threat from set pieces and a lovely top bins strike from a Jayden Hurley free kick was fair consolation for the threat they created.
👏Thanks to Athletic, the supporters from both clubs present and to referee Owen Moynihan on contributing to a lovely game in woodlawn this evening.
We wish Kiernan Kelly all the best for a swift recovery from a nasty ankle injury.
👏Well done boys and management
