🙍‍♂️MOTM Lachlan Scannell

Celtic were looking forward to this evening's Cup tie against Aisling Annacotty as the sides met in the under 15 Cup last year and Celtic were unlucky not to win that game.
Storm Darragh took away the prospect of an entertaining and balanced game as it was very much a game of two halves with the wind strongly favoring each team when they had it. Celtic defended resolutely into what was at times a gale with Lachlan Scannell and Dara Horan working particularly hard on the left-hand side while Mark Looney, Daithi Stack and the midfield trio were putting in plenty of tackles when needed whenever Aisling Annacotty advanced up the pitch. It looked like the game was heading for a nilll all half-time score line when Aisling Annacotty broke down the left hand side of the Celtic defense on the counter and scored.
HT 0-1

The mood in the Celtic team was gold and the lad's knew that with the wind in the second half they would create chances of their own and so it came to pass but little did we know that as the chances that came and went, there would be no change the score line until at the death of the game, Luca Mosca followed the ball bravely to turn the ball past the Aisling Annacotty keeper. It was no more than Celtic deserved having gone close on a number of occasions through James Murphy's deliveries, Samuel Scroope,  Jack Culloty,  Lachlan Scannell and Sean Collins all had opportunities to equalize before Lucas late late show equiliser.

The game continued in a similar fashion with Ashling Annacotty having the bulk of possession and chances when they played with the wind in extra time but Celtic were comfortable  and resolute in defence and held them scoreless - likewise when Celtic had the bulk of the ball, the wind and the opportunities in the second half of extra time Annacotty stood tall and prevented Celtic getting a winner that they possibly deserved in what was a very even game.
So the game went to the dreaded penalty kicks but the penalties from both teams were of a very high quality.

Celtic scorers in order dispatched the dead ball very well - Mark Looney James Murphy, Jack Culloty, Lachlan Scannell and Samuel Scoope all found the corners of the net with great aplomb. In the pressure of sudden death Nando Dominguez coolly dispatched the sixth penalty followed by an equally cool delivery by Luca Mosca.
An unlucky Aisling  Annacotty player blasted the ball over James Murphy's crossbar and so it fell to Sean Collins to ensure Killarney Celtic U16 secured a place in the last 32 nationally of the SFAI cup for the first time.

We are very proud of the lads effort, the teamwork and spirit they showed - it would have been easy for a team under the kosh in the wind to have dropped the head somewhat, but the lads to be fair to them, dug in defended resolutely and tried to play on the break when playing into a very stiff breeze and when they had the wind they showed a lot more of their football and build up capabilities. There was some tremendous performance on the Celtic team Mark Looney at centre half, gave an outstanding display; Luca Mosca - probably our top player this year to date-  playing  center midfield was very composed on the ball, passing well and had some tremendous dribbling with shooting opportunities that he created for himself.  However today's man of the match went to left back Lachlan Scannell for a fine performance. A constant threat on the overlap when Celtic were breaking on the left hand side, robust in the tackle and reading the game and the dangers that Aisling were creating throughout the 80 minutes of the match and the extra time period so a well-deserved MOTM for Lachlan.
👏Thanks again to Tom Kerrisk for a great job on a horrible night for refereeing, and thanks very much to the sporting Aisling Annacotty.

👏Thanks also to our supporters, including some of our u16 B team on a cold wet and windy night.

👏Well done boys and management
