Killarney Celtic hosted Dromore United in the 2nd round of the SFAI cup on what started as a lovely autumn afternoon in Killarney. The visitors had beaten Tralee Dynamos in the previous round and Celtic were expecting a tough contest which they duly got. The visitors came from County Limerick & were very well set up, coached and played as a unit and while Celtic had the bulk of the chances and controlled old large passages of the game, Dromore possessed an excellent Center Half pairing and their keeper was fantastic when called upon saving a number of times from Samuel Scroope, Jack Grady, Nando Dominguez and Jack Culloty.
Credit to our lads for the way they played and their attitude and they continued to work hard for each other to create chances.
Sean Collins, Luca Mosca and Jack Grady linked up well in attack and defence.
Lachlan Scannell and Dara Horan were an effective pairing down the left while Sean Horan , Daithi Stack and Mark Looney provided a solid defensive unit.
Up front the hard working Samuel Scroope and Jack Culloty were excellent throughout.
The bench of Nando, Ryan Downing and Stephen Shine Doody all played well when introduced and Ryan Lucey had a solid game in goals as conditions got trickier.
As the game entered the closing stages Celtic were beginning to create more openings but agonisingly the Dromore keeper made two great stops from 1-on-1 situations.
As the conditions went from benign to wet and wild, celtic continued to press for the breakthrough in extra time.
Fittingly, Mark Looney, who was having a great game at Centre Half, was up for a free kick won a ball and rifled home with his left from a tight angle outside the left post.
Celtic had the advantage of the wind in the 2nd half of extratime and worked hard to deny Dromore a way back into the game.
Capt today was Jack O''Grady.
Best for Celtic were all 14 players! Jack Culloty worked his socks off and impressed and Samuel showed class, workrate and skill but for his leadership and key goal, Mark Looney gets the MOTM nod.
👏Thanks to Dromore for a super game and good luck in the National Trophy to them.
👏Thanks to ref Paddy Osborne who did his usual top job.
👏Well done boys and management
