At Celtic Park this evening Killarney Celtic came deservedly out the right side of an absorbing contest against our great rivals Listowel Celtic who have been the standard bearers at this level the last few years. It was nip and tuck the first 15m but the Killarney Celtic rearguard led by the outstanding Lauren Buckley was steadfast, and our midfield then thundered into the game orchestrated by Amelia Carroll Kelly with Sadbh O’ Halloran and Michelle O ‘ Connor a constant threat on the flanks and Holly Forrest and Ali Bowler workrate and running lines stretching Listowel defence. A great through ball by Holly Forrest put Michelle O ‘ Connor through for well taken opener 25 m into first half and Killarney Celtic were on the front foot for remainder of first half .
In the second half Killarney Celtic pounced for a second goal where Sadbh O ‘ Halloran got in behind the Listowel defence for an expert lob to make it 2-0 12m into half .Listowel to their credit started to dominate the last quarter but Lan O’ Connor and Ciara Forde were rock solid in the back line breaking up the play and instigating counter attacks, with Ellen Allman stepping up to hoover up any loose balls as sweeper. Tara Cronin made an outstanding save at a critical juncture and her presence , shot stopping and kickouts helped to release the pressure . Niamh Fitzgibbon on her debut put in a great shift on the right side of midfield and linked the play well and the Killarney Celtic bench all contributed but Listowel got a great goal strike 5m from end through Maya their central player throughout the game before final whistle was blown.
👏Tom Kerrisk did a great job as referee and hard luck to Listowel Celtic who never gave up . Killarney Celtic best performers on the night were Tara Cronin brilliant in goals, Amelia Carroll Kelly who controlled the midfield play with excellent passing , dribbling and workrate , Holly Forrest upfront whose hard running , and link up play was outstanding, but our girl of the match was Lauren Buckley who gave a masterclass in defending at centre back and was imperious from start to end of game .
