🙍♂️Man of the Match was difficult to pick, given the number of standout performances. However, Jamie Downing, who was flawless at the back, takes the honors for his superb display.
In our opening league fixture, the Killarney Celtic Whites delivered an outstanding all-around team performance. Right from the first whistle, Celtic pressed aggressively across the pitch, putting Ballyhar under constant pressure while dominating possession throughout the game.
The boys played with composure, keeping the ball on the ground for the full 60 minutes. They were unlucky not to take an early lead after a blistering run and shot by David Ajibare. Our central defenders, Kyle Fleming and Jamie Downing, were rock-solid at the back, leading a well-organized defense, while Keenan McCarthy, sitting in the No. 6 role, controlled the midfield with authority.
Our tireless midfield duo, Rowan Murphy and Josh O’Donoghue, worked relentlessly throughout the game. The breakthrough finally came just before halftime, after a superb team attack. A precise through ball from George Nomikos found Eoin Murphy, who calmly slotted it home to give Celtic a deserve 1-0 lead.
In the warm conditions, every squad player contributed, with multiple changes ensuring everyone got valuable minutes on the pitch. Celtic continued to control possession in the second half, creating several chances, but were unlucky not to extend their lead. Unfortunately, Ballyhar capitalized on a counterattack midway through the second half to level the score.
Despite the setback, Celtic’s heads didn’t drop. They kept up the pressure, creating chance after chance. Eventually, the persistence paid off when a bouncing ball fell to David Ajibare, who coolly chipped it over the onrushing keeper, securing the winner for Celtic.
👏A big thank you to all the supporters who came out, and we hope to see you all again next week!
👏Well done boys & management
