Killarney Celtic A opened their competitive season with a win away to Ringmahon Rangers Junior Premier side. The 1st half was even with neither team creating many clear cut chances. Roy Kelliher had to be alert to snuff out a through ball and Celtic also used up some good fortune after a mix up at the back.
The 2nd half continued in the same vein until Ringmahon almost hit the front. Good work by Kalem Cashman down the right led to a pull back from the end line which resulted in Ringmahon hitting the crossbar. Celtic made the most of this let off and on 62 mins after good interplay on the left between Wayne Sparling and Nattagan Ryan, a shot from Wayne Sparling ended up in the net. Celtic were unlucky not to extend their lead when Stephen McCarthy almost scored after he intercepted a back pass and Sean Lovett was denied on the follow up. Celtic continued to be dangerous on the break with Matt Keane and Wayne Sparling having openings to add to the score. Ringmahon came forward with purpose in the closing minutes but Celtic defended stoutly. Celtic broke forward in the closing minutes of injury time and showed their experience at this level by controlling the ball in the Ringmahon half and thus qualified for a semi final away to Grattan Utd of the Cork AUL.
