Celtic u14’s made the long journey to Ennis today for a last 32 fai trophy clash with Lifford afc. Celtic playing against a strong breeze in the first half seemed to settle into the game pretty quick and we’re well up for this tie winning all the battles in midfield, however against the run of play they found themselves 1-0 down after 15mins after not dealing with a long which bounced around and a lifford player pounced and gave our keeper no chance with a great strike. Celtic to their credit never dropped their heads and this spurred them into action that see all players lift their game and after some great passing a superb through ball from Oisin sent kiernan threw one on one with the keeper who he rounded for a very composed finish 1-1 after 25mins gone,Celtic again grew in confidence and made it 2-1 with a great team effort down the left hand side after which Lachlan found himself with time and space to pick out the on rushing kiernan who again took his goal very efficiently with a neat flick past the keeper. H/t 2-1 Celtic
Second half and it was much the same from Celtic maintaing their work rate and pressing and after great work from Donnacha he swung a great cross to the back post where nakita found himself unmarked and smashed it to the back of the net to give the lifford keeper no chance.3-1 Celtic after 6mins into the second half
Lifford to their credit who played some very decent football throughout pushed hard to get back into the game but our midfield and back four stood up when it mattered and all this resilience was just reward when our keeper Luke Clancy made a great save and played a first time long ball which caught the Lifford defence and allowed kiernan to latch onto and get his hat-trick and make it 4-1 after 44mins gone. Lifford gone one back to make it 4-2 which made it a bit nervy but substitute Simon made sure there was no way back for Lifford, great work and pressing from Ben found him dispossess the lifford fullback and he neatly slipped in Simon who finished very well from 18yards with a great strike, as mentioned lifford never gave up and with 30secs remaing they got a third with a great strike from an acute angle that gave our keeper no chance.
All in all great performance by the lads from 1 to 18.
Can’t split for motm as every player stood up today and delivered a great preformace .
Celtic can now look forward to the next round which pits us against either mallow or ringmahon of cork in the next round.
👏Thanks to Lifford AFCfor a fine sporting game and their hospitality after the game and we wish them well for the remainder of the season.
👏Thanks to the ref.
👏Well done boys and management
