Celtic Green welcomed Newcastle West to Killarney for a 2nd round of the national cup.
Celtic started very brightly and could have been 1 or 2 up in the first few mins, Cillian Scannell breaking through and hitting the crossbar, few lovely balls into the box from Evan O’Donoghue and David Ajibare couldn’t get on end of them.
Jack Kissane burst through to put Celtic up 1 nil and a minute later could have made it 2 but his effort came back off the post. Paul McGrath, Sean Doyle, and JJ Landers playing well in midfield.
Evan O’Donoghue keeping the defence together along with James Brosnan and Cillian Daly.
Celtic went in 1 up.
Second half started like the first and Cillian Scannell was brough down in the box. Up he stepped and Celtic 2 up. Jack Kissane could have made it 3 only for a super save by Newcastle West keeper. Evan O’Donoghue again playing super in the defence. He kept Fionn Culloty and Gavin Fitzgearld moving along.
Newcastle west then came back at Celtic and got 1 back, Celtic kept going and couldn’t get a third. A Newcastle West pen and game is 2-2. The game finished 2-2 and into extra time.
Newcastle West really upped the tempo and score a goal of the season contender. They went 3-2 up and were playing super. Evan O’Donoghue, Jack Kissane and Cillian Scannell driving Celtic on. Credit to Cillian Scannell as he had a few heavy tackles and kept going.
Time was running out and up stepped Dylan McCarthy with a super strike, game level and nothing to separate the teams. It went to the dreaded pens.
👏The hero of the pens was Tiernan Cronin in goal and Conor Doherty with the winner.
👏Every player played their part but best for Celtic were Jack Kissane, Evan O’Donoghue and MOTM Cillian Scannell.
👏Thanks to the ref and Newcastle West, a horrible way to lose and we wish them luck in their league. A great team.
